Spring Sports Informational Meeting


The Spring Sports Informational Meeting is tomorrow (Thursday, January 31st) at 6:30pm in room 3012 (Education Center basement) regarding workouts, tryouts, and requirements. All students and parents interested in spring sports at HGCS should plan to attend this meeting. 
Spring sports tryouts will begin the week of February 18th. Specific dates and times for tryouts will be posted on the Athletic Announcements Blog in the coming weeks. All students must turn in ALL athletic forms (Athletic Physical Form, Athletic Participation Agreement, Athletic Medical Forms Packet) to the coach or athletic office by the first day of tryouts in order to participate.

HS Boys Meeting January 30th
There will be a meeting for all 9th-11th grade boys on Wednesday, January 30th during 2nd lunch in rooms 1111/1112 in the Welcome Center.

Winter Sports Senior Night
Senior Night for winter sports is this Friday, February 1st at the home basketball games against Gaston Day School. Senior basketball players and cheerleaders will be recognized immediately after the Varsity Women's Basketball game, which is scheduled to begin at 5:30pm.

Tacky Night at Tuesday Basketball Games
This Tuesday is Tacky Night at the home basketball games as the Lions face Concord First Assembly at 4:00 (JV Boys), 5:30 (Varsity Women), and 7:00 (Varsity Men). Students who dress for the theme night will be admitted for just $1 (regular admission is $3 for JV, $5 for Varsity, free for kids 10 & under).

 Jersey Night at Tuesday Basketball Games
This Friday is Jersey Night at the home basketball games as the Lions face Gaston Day School at 4:00 (JV Boys), 5:30 (Varsity Women), and 7:00 (Varsity Men). Students who dress for the theme night will be admitted for just $1 (regular admission is $3 for JV, $5 for Varsity, free for kids 10 & under).

Varsity Track Workouts
Optional Varsity Track workouts will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:50 to 4:00pm beginning January 8th (except during Missions week). Student-athletes are also encouraged to attend the off-season workouts offered at the field house on Mondays and Wednesdays. Please let Coach Stover know if you plan to attend workouts (andrewstover@hgchristian.org). 

 Varsity Women's Soccer Workouts
Varsity Women's Soccer workouts will begin on January 14th and will be held on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 3:00 to 4:00/4:30.

Workouts for all high school off-season athletes are being held Monday through Thursday from 2:45 to 4:30 at the field house. Both male and female athletes from any sport are welcome and encouraged to attend workouts.

Golf Tournament
The HGCS AAA Booster Club is excited to announce that the 20th Annual Golf Tournament will be held at Pine Lake Country Club on April 29, 2019. Over the years, our golf tournament has proven to be a great success and has contributed to many enhancements to the school’s programs. Recently, we were able to provide funding for improvements to the school’s softball field which included a new press box, concrete sidewalks, and additional bleachers. This was only possible through the contributions of our generous sponsors.

This year, our tournament goal is to raise $35,000 which will provide funding to establish a STEM lab for the school. The STEM lab is being designed to include Vex Robotics, 3D printers, model design, and building materials as well as movable furniture to allow flexible room arrangements. In order to meet this goal, we look forward to working with our participants and sponsors to make this milestone golf tournament a success!

Winter team pictures for Varsity Swimming have been rescheduled for Thursday, January 24th at 3:00pm at Simmons YMCA. All athletes will take both an individual and team pictures regardless of whether or not they are ordering pictures. Please bring your completed PICTURE FORM and money to turn in to the photographer on your team's picture day.

Varsity Track Workouts
***NO WORKOUTS THURSDAY, JANUARY 24TH***
Optional Varsity Track workouts will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:50 to 4:00pm beginning January 8th (except during Missions week). Tie Dye Night at Tuesday Home Games
Join us this Tuesday for JV and Varsity Basketball home games against Gaston Christian School! The JV Boys play at 4:00, the Varsity Women play at 5:30, and the Varsity Men play at 7:00. The theme for the night is Tie Dye Night, so students can dress in tie dye apparel to be admitted for just $1!

Hawaiian Night at Friday Home Games
Join us this Friday for JV and Varsity Basketball home games against SouthLake Christian Academy! The JV Boys play at 4:00, the Varsity Women play at 5:30, and the Varsity Men play at 7:00. The theme for the night is Hawaiian Night, so students can dress in Hawaiian themed attire to be admitted for just $1! (Inappropriate attire will result in no admission to the games.)

Spring Sports Sign-Ups This Week
Sign-ups for spring sports tryouts begin Monday, January 7th and will run through Friday, January 11th. MS and HS students may sign-up to express interest in trying out for the following spring sports:

White Out at Friday Home Games
Join us this Friday for JV and Varsity Basketball home games against Metrolina Christian Academy! The JV Boys play at 4:00, the Varsity Women play at 5:30, and the Varsity Men play at 7:00. The theme for the night is White Out, so students can dress in white to be admitted for just $1!

Varsity Women's Soccer Meeting Monday
There will be a Varsity Women's Soccer team meeting during second lunch on Monday, January 7th in room 4102 in the FLC.

 Swim Team Pictures Rescheduled for January 24th
Winter team pictures for Varsity Swimming have been rescheduled for Thursday, January 24th at 3:00pm at Simmons YMCA. All athletes will take both an individual and team pictures regardless of whether or not they are ordering pictures. Please bring your completed PICTURE FORM and money to turn in to the photographer on your team's picture day.

Off-Season Workouts
Workouts for all high school off-season athletes are being held Monday through Thursday from 2:45 to 4:30 at the field house. Both male and female athletes from any sport are welcome and encouraged to attend workouts.

Volunteers Needed for Winter Season
The HGCS Athletic Department and AAA Booster Club need the help of volunteers to assist with admissions and concessions at athletic events throughout the winter season. Please sign up for a volunteer time slot on our Sign Up Genius page.
