This Thursday, September 20th is "Class Colors Night" at the home soccer and volleyball games! Students can wear their class t-shirts or class colors to be admitted to the home games for just $1. Join us at the soccer field after the Varsity Men's Soccer game for our annual Powder Puff tournament!

Join us this Friday, September 21st at 2:00pm in Gyms A/B for this year's Homecoming Pep Rally! We'll recognize our fall Varsity teams, introduce this year's Homecoming Court, and get ready for the Homecoming game!

Varsity Football Home Game - HOMECOMING

This Friday, September 21st is HOMECOMING at HGCS! We'll have a pep rally at 2:00pm in Gyms A/B to recognize our fall varsity teams and Homecoming Court. Varsity Football will kick-off against Village Christian at 7:00pm. Students who blue and gold to the game will be admitted for just $1! (General Admission - $5, Kids 10 & Under - Free). HGCS Alumni will be admitted to the game for free and are invited to enjoy food and fellowship at the alumni tent during the game (RSVP here)! Don't miss the crowning of the 2018 Homecoming King and Queen at halftime!

Homecoming Alumni Tent

Join us at the alumni tent for the HGCS Homecoming game on Friday, September 21st! We will have a taco bar, cornhole, and lots of great fellowship with HG alumni! Food will be served under the tent beginning at 6:30pm, and the football game will kick off at 7:00pm. All alumni and their immediate families will be admitted to the game and tent for free! Homecoming 2017

We are kicking off Spirit Week with the high school Powder Puff Tournament on Monday, September 25th after the JV Football game (around 6:30pm)!

Don't miss the Homecoming Pep Rally at 2:00pm on Friday, September 29th! We'll introduce our fall Varsity teams and this year's Homecoming Court!

This year's Homecoming game is scheduled for Friday, September 29th. The Varsity Football team will kick-off against Asheville School at 7:00pm. Be sure to dress for "Blue & Gold Night" to support the Lions! Students who wear blue and gold to the game will be admitted for just $1. Regular admission is $5 (free for kids 10 & under). Don't miss the presentation of the Homecoming Court at halftime!

Senior Night

We will recognize our Varsity Volleyball seniors at their home game on Thursday, September 28th, and our Varsity Men's Soccer seniors at their home game on Friday, October 6th. On Friday, October 27th, we will recognize our Varsity Football, Varsity Cheerleading, and Varsity Cross Country seniors during halftime of the home football game. Seniors and their parents will receive emails with specific instructions prior to their team's Senior Night.

Swim Team Suit Fitting

All middle school and high school students interested in joining the swim team this year need to stop by the swim table on Wednesday, October 4th in front of the lunch room during MS and HS lunch. This year's suit fitting will be done at this time, and all swimmers will need to pick up their team apparel order form/team shop information.

MS Boys' Basketball Workouts

Pre-season workouts for MS Boys' Basketball will be held on October 20th and 27th after school until 4:30pm in Gym C. Please contact Coach Greg Scott at gregscott@hgbc.org with questions regarding MS Boys' Basketball and workouts. Students participating in any athletic activities, including workouts, must have a current physical on file with the Athletic Trainer.

Varsity Women's Basketball Workouts
Off-season workouts for Varsity Women's Basketball will be held every Monday and Wednesday starting Wednesday, September 6th in Gym C and the Field House after school until 4:30pm. Any girls interested in attending Varsity Women's Basketball workouts should contact Assistant Coach Rhonda Williams at rhondawilliams@hgchristian.org. Students participating in any athletic activities, including workouts, must have a current physical on file with the Athletic Trainer.

Winter Sport Sign-Ups
Sign-ups for winter sports will be held next week (October 2-6) in the high school office, middle school hallway, and online. Please look for the sign-up link in next week's announcements. Tryouts for winter sports will be held the week of October 30th. Students must turn in all athletic forms (Athletic Physical Form, Athletic Participation Agreement, Athletic Medical Forms Packet) by the first day of tryouts in order to participate. Winter sports include MS Girls' Basketball, Varsity Women's Basketball, MS Boys' Basketball, JV Boys' Basketball, Varsity Men's Basketball, and Varsity Men's & Women's Swimming.

MS Cheerleading Interest Table
Any middle school girls interested in trying out for MS Cheerleading for the winter season (basketball cheer) should stop by the interest table outside the lunch room on Wednesday, October 25th to speak to Coach Rhodes and pick up an informational flyer.

Winter Sports Informational Meeting
The Winter Sports Informational Meeting will be held on Monday, October 23rd at 6:30pm in room 3012 in the basement of the Education Building. This meeting will be a break-out session of Parent Night. We will discuss winter sports tryouts, requirements, eligibility, forms, fees, expectations, etc. Please plan to attend this meeting if your child is trying out for a winter sport.

Fall Sports Banquet
Save the date for the Fall Sports Banquet, which will be held on Monday, October 30th at 6:30pm in Gyms A & B! All fall varsity athletes and their immediate families are invited to attend. We will enjoy dinner and announce team awards as we celebrate the fall athletic season.

Student Volunteers After Games

We are in need of high school students to help break down the field and clean up after home football games. Students can receive community service hours for volunteering for clean-up. All student volunteers should meet Mrs. Garner at the top of the student section beside the press box immediately after the football game ends.

Home Games This Week
Our JV Football team will face Concord First Assembly on Tuesday at 4:30pm at home. Varsity Women's Tennis will also play a home match on Tuesday at 4:00pm at Mint Hill Veterans Memorial Park against Gaston Christian School. On Thursday, MS Boys' Soccer will play Charlotte Secondary School at 4:00, followed by JV and Varsity Volleyball vs. Wesleyan Christian Academy at 5:00 and 6:00. Finally, our Varsity Football team will face Christ the King Catholic High school this Friday at 7:00pm for our Homecoming game! GO LIONS!

Powder Puff Tournament
Stay after the JV Football game for the Powder Puff Tournament beginning at 7:00 pm. Round 1 will feature two games that will be played simultaneously (freshman vs. juniors, sophomores vs. seniors). The winner of those two games will play in the championship round. Admission for the Powder Puff Tournament is FREE!

Homecoming Pep Rally
Make plans to join us at our Homecoming Pep Rally where we will recognize our Fall Varsity teams and watch our Varsity Cheerleaders perform. We'll have the ultimate Lip Sync Battle and the introduction of the Homecoming Court, something you don't want to miss!

Food Truck Tailgate
Come early to get your pregame meal from Two Chicks and a Truck and Vito's Pizza Truck. Both food trucks will be serving food starting at 5:30pm in the gravel parking lot at the athletic complex. Dress in your blue & gold HG spirit wear, bring your chairs, and hang out with friends and family as we get ready for the Homecoming game and festivities! 10% of sales will be donated to the school. 

Homecoming Game
The 2016 Homecoming Varsity Football game will be played on Friday, September 30 at 7:00pm against Christ the King Catholic High School! Students who wear blue and gold to the game will be admitted for $1. Don't miss the presentation of the Homecoming court and crowning of the King and Queen at halftime!

Fall Senior Night
Friday, October 14 is Senior Night for fall sports! The HGCS Athletic Department and AAA Booster Club will recognize senior athletes for all fall teams during halftime of the Varsity Football game, which starts at 7:00pm. Senior athletes and senior parents will receive additional information regarding Senior Night instructions in the coming weeks.

Winter Sports Informational Meeting
An informational meeting for all students and parents interested in winter sports (basketball, cheerleading, swimming) at Hickory Grove Christian School will be held on Monday, October 17 at 6:30pm in Room 3012 (Education Center Basement). The meeting will cover tryouts, required paperwork, policies, expectations, and specific team information.

Fall Varsity Sports Banquet
The end-of-season awards banquet for fall varsity athletes will be held on Monday, November 7 at 6:30pm in Gyms A/B. 

Volunteers Needed for Fall Events
The HGCS Athletic Department and AAA Booster Club need the help of volunteers to assist in different areas (admissions booth/table, concessions, apparel, etc.) at athletic events during the fall season, including football, soccer, volleyball, and cross country events. Online Athletic Calendar

Beginning this school year, the Athletic Department will no longer use Schedule Star. We are currently transitioning to Google Calendar for our athletic schedule. This will allow our schedule to be more compatible with our school's academic calendar and website, and it will be more mobile-friendly for our students and parents. To access the athletic schedule, please visit the Athletics page of the school website and click on the "Athletics Calendar" link on the left side of the page. On this page, you will see the Athletic Events Calendar at the top. This calendar will show all sports teams, meetings, and Athletic Department events by default. To narrow this down to specific teams, click on the drop-down menu arrow in the top right corner of the calendar and check or uncheck whichever teams you prefer. Additionally, there is a Practice Calendar below the Athletic Events Calendar on the same page. This calendar will show scheduled practice times for all teams by default, but can also be narrowed down to specific teams. You can add either of these calendars from the website to your own personal calendar on your computer or mobile device by clicking "+GoogleCalendar" at the bottom of the calendar. You can view additional details about each game/event, such as start/end times, locations, dismissal times, etc., by clicking on the game/event title.

• Homecoming Pep Rally - Make plans to join us at our Homecoming Pep Rally where we will recognize our Fall Varsity teams and watch our Varsity Cheerleaders perform. We'll have the ultimate Lip Sync Battle and the introduction of the Homecoming Court, something you don't want to miss!

• Food Truck Tailgate - Come early to get your pregame meal from Two Chicks and a Truck and Vito's Pizza Truck. Both food trucks will be serving food starting at 5:30pm in the gravel parking lot at the athletic complex. Dress in your blue & gold HG spirit wear, bring your chairs, and hang out with friends and family as we get ready for the Homecoming game and festivities! 10% of sales will be donated to the school. 

     

• Homecoming Game - Varsity Football vs. Christ the King Catholic High School, 7:00pm. Students who wear blue and gold to the game will be admitted for just $1! Don't miss the presentation of the Homecoming Court and crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen at halftime!
